Social media users posted videos of the train rushing through multiple stations at a rapid pace.
According to reports, on Sunday the train from Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir to the Hoshiarpur area in Punjab went without a driver.
The train was stopped, according to the railways, and nobody was harmed.
According to officials, the event happened on Sunday between 07:25 and 09:00 local time (01:55 and 3:30 GMT), according to the Press Trust of India news agency.
The 53-wagon train, which was hauling stone chips, made a stop in Kathua for a crew change while traveling from Jammu to Punjab.
Officials indicate that once the train driver and his helper got off, it started to move on the railroad tracks, down a slope.
The train traveled at around 100 km/h and passed through roughly five stations before coming to a stop.
Authorities quickly blocked railroad crossings in the train’s path after learning of its movement.
