After being approached by the administration of President Donald Trump, Apple announced on Thursday that it has taken ICEBlock, the most widely used ICE-tracking software, and other comparable apps out of its software Store.
The app notifies users about local Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. Trump’s strong immigration policy has been centered on ICE, whose agents have frequently raided and detained migrants.
The software may make US agents more vulnerable to attack, according to the Justice Department.
“Based on information we’ve received from law enforcement about the safety risks associated with ICEBlock, we have removed it and similar apps from the App Store,” Apple stated in a statement sent by email.
