Arctic Monkeys have sparked excitement among fans after releasing their new single “Opening Night” for the charity album Help(2). The track marks the band’s first release since their 2022 album, The Car.
A Charity Project Brings the Band Together
Drummer Matt Helders told BBC Radio 1’s New Music Show that joining the project was an “easy yes.” While the band has no immediate plans for a new album, Helders emphasized that making music together is something they love and will continue doing.
“The studio is our happy place,” he said, adding that the project reminded them how fun it is to make music together.
Help(2), released on March 6, features more than 30 artists, including Olivia Rodrigo, Wet Leg, and The Last Dinner Party. All proceeds will support War Child, a charity that helps children affected by war.
“Everyone agrees that kids shouldn’t be in a situation like that,” Helders told DJ Jack Saunders. He explained that the band’s enthusiasm for participating in the album was at an all-time high.
Fans Celebrate the Band’s Return
Fans were quick to react positively. Robbie Lees, a 26-year-old Arctic Monkeys superfan, hopes this project inspires the band to return to the studio for more long-term projects.
“As a fan, it makes me very happy to hear that the studio is their happy place and that this project brought them back together,” Lees said.
Similarly, 22-year-old fan Gracie Eccles expressed joy that the band isn’t stepping away from music. She praised the group for supporting a meaningful cause and said it shows their commitment goes beyond just making hits.
A Look Back at Their Legacy
Since their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not in 2006, Arctic Monkeys have gained a devoted following. Their first album became the UK’s fastest-selling debut, and subsequent releases, including Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Suck It and See (2011), and AM (2013), all hit number one in the UK.
Their latest album, The Car, reached number two in the UK charts. Helders hinted that while Opening Night was initially a one-off project, it could spark new creative projects for the band.
“Time will tell if this inspires more music,” he said.
Fans Remain Hopeful
Despite rumors suggesting that “Opening Night” might be their last track, both fans and the band seem optimistic. Arctic Monkeys’ continued dedication to music and meaningful causes keeps hope alive for new material in the future.
