According to Energy Minister Awais Leghari, regions included in the feeders that cause losses would persist in experiencing power outages despite the hot weather, with some parts of Sindh experiencing temperatures over 50°C.
His remarks coincided with ongoing, sporadic demonstrations against unexpected load shedding in the sweltering heat taking place around the nation.
Leghari said he gave the electricity distribution firms (Discos) instructions to enhance overall performance and reduce loadshedding duration during a news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.
The energy minister also instructed the distribution companies to inform the public on a daily basis about the supply and demand of electricity.
He claimed that qualified employees would take over the management of power distribution businesses.
The energy minister claimed that high-loss feeders, technological issues, and electricity theft were the main causes of power outages and that a system was being gradually redesigned to get around loadshedding.
According to him, the nation lacks 4,232 megawatts, and high-loss feeders were unable to make up the difference.
Leghari stated that approximately 80 feeders in Balochistan, 350 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 700 in Sindh, and 150 in Punjab are loss-making and will be overhauled.
He pledged to meet the demand for electricity this summer and in the future year, stating that the nation has a sufficient capacity for producing electricity.
Additionally, the minister of energy restated that the federal government was ending the solar net metering program.
