According to a statement released by the Foreign Office on Thursday, Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), arrived in Islamabad for a three-day visit.
Ambassador Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, the Additional Foreign Secretary (Asia & Pacific), met him at the Islamabad International Airport.
In addition to holding lengthy bilateral discussions with Senator Ishaq Dar, the foreign minister and deputy prime minister, Minister Liu Jianchao will pay a visit to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Additionally, Minister Liu and Deputy Prime Minister Dar will co-chair the third meeting of the political parties’ China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Joint Consultative Mechanism (JCM) in Pakistan.
The JCM of Political Parties on CPEC was founded in 2019 and serves as a regular platform for interaction between Pakistani political parties and the Communist Party of China. Previous sessions took place virtually on August 20, 2020, and in Beijing on March 19, 2019.
Pakistan and China will discuss the status of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, the project’s impact on Pakistan’s socio-economic growth, and the project’s expansion and improvement for regional connectivity during the Third Meeting of the JCM.
The visit is a part of high-level talks between Pakistan and China, which also include talks between Pakistan’s political parties and the Chinese Communist Party.
It highlights how crucial it is for the two nations to strengthen their “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” and reiterates their support for one another on matters of their respective fundamental concerns.
