ISLAMABAD Due to the senior leadership’s failure to win the release of party founder Imran Khan from prison, 21 of the party’s MPs, who are now members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), have signaled that they may create a separate bloc. This has caused cracks to appear in the beleaguered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), sources informed Geo News on Wednesday.
21 PTI MPs signaled to create a forward bloc and “conveyed a message” to Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan and Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan to begin serious efforts for the release of leaders who are now detained, dealing a blow to the former ruling party.
After Shehryar Afridi announced his resignation, around 27 PTI lawmakers convened for talks. Sher Afzal Marwat, Shandana Gulzar Khan, and a number of parliamentarians also voiced their disapproval of the party’s leadership’s inefficiency at this same time.
In addition to claiming that the top leaders of the National Assembly and the Senate’s legislative leader were “compromised” for certain committees, it was revealed that a number of PTI lawmakers had been excused from the parliamentary party session because of their disagreements.
They said that rather than concentrating on the PTI founder’s and party leaders’ release from prison, certain leaders were vying for more senior positions.
The sources further stated that 21 of the 27 members were considering establishing a forward block, while the remaining 27 lawmakers supported leaving the assembly.
