U.S. Measles Cases and Deaths Rise
As the Brewers overcame an early four-run deficit to become the first team to sweep the same team that eliminated them from the playoffs the year before, Bauers added a bases-loaded walk to tie the game in the fifth inning.
They have a handful of Hall of Famers, but we have a bunch of gamers, and the gamers won this week,” Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy remarked at the on-field trophy presentation.
Four pitchers kept the Dodgers scoreless for the last seven innings as catcher William Contreras led the Brewers’ pitching staff in a bullpen game.
The state health agency reports that since the outbreak started in April, Pennsylvania has had more than 1,100 cases and more than 200 hospital admissions.
Twenty children have been hospitalized this year due to measles-related sickness, according to Dr. Patrick Gavigan, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital in Dauphin County, which borders hotspot Lancaster County.
We’ve discussed the MMR vaccine with folks in a variety of ways,” Gavigan stated. “With patients, by the time we’re seeing them with measles, for them the opportunity has passed and the ship has sailed” to get immunized.
Rural Communities Expand Measles Vaccination Efforts
More remote populations and those without access to vaccinations have been visited by local health officials. As a result of receiving the vaccination, some community members have been encouraged to tell their friends, family, and neighbors about it.
The most effective communication comes from those who have had vaccinations and spread the message, according to Jeanne Franklin, public health director of the Chester County Health Department in Pennsylvania, who spoke to News. We’ve gotten inquiries from folks who want to bring the MMR vaccination to their house or place of work with a group of interested people,” she added.
A 500% increase in vaccination
Utah’s Department of Health & Human Services reports that 724 cases of measles have been reported since the epidemic started in June 2025.
In contrast to the outbreaks in Pennsylvania, Texas, and South Carolina, which were all mainly restricted to a single area, the virus has infected undervaccinated and unvaccinated populations in nearly every county in Utah.
Local authorities have been worried about falling vaccination rates for years, according to Kirk Benge, executive director and health officer of the TriCounty Health Department, who spoke with News. Northeastern Utah’s Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah counties make up the TriCounty area.
