LAHORE: Maryam Nawaz, Senior Vice-President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who will become the first woman to serve as Punjab’s chief minister in the country’s history, has promised the province’s people that she will “live up to” their expectations while carrying out her duties as provincial chief executive.

She was named as the party’s candidate for the coveted position following her victories in both the national and provincial parliament seats — NA-119 and PP-159 — in the February 8 general elections.

Addressing a meeting in Lahore on Wednesday, the Punjab Chief Minister-elect praised the people for giving her party “the mandate” and ensuring its success as the single largest political party to win the majority in the 2024 elections.

“Your trust and support are my real assets,” Maryam stated, asking that she could serve the people in the “best way possible”.

The PML-N leader has also stated that she want to give the honor of becoming the “first woman CM” to every mother, daughter, and sister in the country.

She shared her intentions for Punjab’s governance and stated that the party has developed a roadmap of its priorities at both the government and party levels.

“The MPAs [members of the provincial assembly] will be my pillars of strength. “The 297 constituencies of Punjab will be districts for me,” Maryam declared.

She also added that health, education, infrastructure, law enforcement, agriculture, information technology, and all other sectors will receive equal attention.Maryam concluded her remarks by thanking her party and supporters and promising to use Nawaz Sharif’s and Shehbaz Sharif’s experience as former prime ministers and Punjab chief ministers, respectively, to handle provincial issues.
