The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) president, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, initiated a probe on Monday into the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) notification of a “unknown” lady for the party’s reserved seat in the National Assembly.
The electoral authority issued the notification, bearing number F6 of 2024, for the triumph of the aforementioned unnamed woman in the NA reserved seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Fazl responded by submitting a request to suspend the notification and conduct an investigation into the incident.
“Sadaf Sultan is not a JUI-F member or on our list. “Notification for Sadaf Ehsan should be suspended, and Ms Hina Bibi should be notified [on the reserved seat],” Fazl said.
He also questioned if Sadaf’s notification was made by mistake or as part of a scheme.
Last Thursday, the ECP assigned reserved seats in the NA and all four provincial assemblies.
It should be mentioned that the reserved seats were split among other parties after the electoral monitor decided against assigning them to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council.
According to an ECP announcement, PML-N’s Sobia Shahid, Ghazala Anjum, Shela Bano, and Shaheen will represent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the National Assembly, while PPP’s Asma Alamgir, Naeema Kanwal, Naeema Kishwar, and Sadaf Ehsan of JUI-F will represent the same province.
