Hilary Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, spoke out after Ashley Tisdale shared her experience with a so-called “toxic” mom group.
Ashley wrote for The Cut about feeling left out of a mom group she initially thought would be supportive. She explained how Instagram made her aware of gatherings she wasn’t invited to, which left her feeling excluded.
“I remember being left out of a couple of group hangs, and I knew about them because Instagram fed me every photo and Story,” Ashley wrote. She added that she tried not to take it personally at first. But over time, the exclusion felt intentional. She recalled feeling like she was back in high school, asking herself what she had done wrong.
Eventually, Ashley decided to leave the group. She texted them, saying, “This is too high school for me and I don’t want to take part in it anymore.” Some members apologized, though Ashley felt the apologies were insincere. She explained her reason for sharing the story: “Motherhood has enough challenges without wondering if the people around you are on your side. You deserve to go through it with people who actually like you. If you have to wonder, it’s not the right group for you.”
After the essay, fans speculated that Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor were part of the group. Ashley’s team denied it, saying her essay was about the challenges moms face, not about any specific celebrities.
Matthew Koma reacted on Instagram on January 6.The subheading read: “A Mom Group Tell All Through A Father’s Eyes.” Matthew shares three daughters with Hilary, along with her 13-year-old son, Luca, from her previous marriage.
This isn’t the first time celebrity groups have faced rumors. For instance, Tan France and Bobby Berk addressed a rumored falling out after Bobby left Queer Eye in 2024.
Ashley Tisdale’s essay and Matthew Koma’s response show how quickly personal experiences can spark public speculation.
