KATHMANDU: Authorities say Monday’s unrest killed at least 19 people in Nepal when demonstrators attempted to assault parliament in retaliation for a social media shutdown and corruption, while police in the capital used tear gas and rubber bullets.
According to a local authority, some of the biggest teenage demonstrators broke through a barricade to enter the parliament complex in Kathmandu, where they set fire to an ambulance and threw objects at the riot police lines that guarded the legislature.
According to one protester, “the police have been firing indiscriminately,” as reported by the news agency. “They fired bullets that struck a friend standing behind me but missed me. He took a blow on the hand.
Over 100 individuals, including 28 police officers, were undergoing medical treatment.
