GUJRAT: On Wednesday, men and women of letters from his generation gathered at Hafiz Hayat Campus to honor a renowned writer who touches people’s hearts via his works that convey his love and dedication for the land and its people.
As a part of the ongoing book fair at the university, the Quaid-e-Azam Library and the University of Gujrat Reader’s Club jointly arranged the event, titled “Gujrat’s Portrayal: Through the Pen of Sheikh Abdul Rashid.”
The main guest was renowned columnist, poet, and academic Dr. Sughra Sadaf. Director-General of Punjab Libraries Kashif Manzoor, Dr. Amjad Tufail, Gagan Shahid, Atiq Anwar Raja, Peer Zia-ul-Haq Naqshbandi, and Sheikh Abdul Rashid himself were among the esteemed guests.
Because Gujrat is a city of knowledge and wisdom, Dr. Sughra Sadaf stressed that historical research is a difficult endeavor. Sheikh Abdul Rashid has painstakingly unearthed historical details and lost connections strewn over Gujrat, she declared. Sheikh Abdul Rashid has endeavored to successfully preserve Gujrat’s lost past for future generations through a variety of biographical writings.
Kashif Manzoor described Sheikh Abdul Rashid as “a dynamic, versatile, and literature-loving person.” Praiseing Sheikh Rashid’s contributions as a social historian, Manzoor pointed out that his function was similar to that of a Gujrat historian, with a preference for writing well as well as for writing.
