A young woman was abducted and raped in her home south of Boston, Massachusetts, in 2007. Tuen Kit Lee was convicted of the crime in 2007, but he fled before he could face punishment.
Since Lee was wearing a mask at the time of the attack, his victim was able to identify him in part based on the scent of his breath, and police used appearances on America’s Most Wanted to maintain public awareness of the case.
He was apprehended on Tuesday after his companion, who was unaware of his past, saw him leaving a “multi-million dollar residence” close to Oakland, California.
A statement from the Massachusetts State Police stated, “After 15 years of being together in California, his female companion never knew who he really was.”
The US Marshals Service said that when pictures of a man thought to be Lee appeared on social media, they were able to locate him in Contra Costa County, California.
Lee originally provided a bogus name when police pulled over his automobile, but when pressed, he revealed his own identity, and his fingerprints verified it.
Police are detaining Lee in California while they wait for him to be transferred to Massachusetts.
He could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
