Barbie suffered a significant setback when the 2024 BAFTA nominations were revealed.
The biggest blockbuster of 2023 was not nominated for Best Picture at the British Academy Film Awards’ announcement of categories on Thursday.
In addition to Martin Scorsese for Killers of the Flower Moon, Greta Gerwig was excluded from consideration for Best Director.
Despite being highly praised by reviewers and fans alike, the billion-dollar club film only received five nominations for the forthcoming awards presentation.
However, Ryan Gosling has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor, while Margot Robbie is one of the movie’s five candidates for Best Leading Actress.
At the Golden Globes earlier last month, Barbie took home a Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award, but Oppenheimer won five other prizes.
In July 2023, Christopher Nolan’s historical biopic became part of the Barbenheimer craze and was nominated for 13 awards, including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film, and Best Director.
In addition, Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of Robert J. Oppenheimer has earned him a first-ever BAFTA nomination.
