QUETTA: It has been 19 days since Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti entered office, but he has failed to establish a cabinet to get provincial affairs operating properly.
In this regard, the province’s chief executive indicated that it will take two weeks to create the cabinet.
The restive province remains without a cabinet, with provincial MPs linking the delay in cabinet formation to the Senate’s April 2 elections.
Zamrak Khan Achakzai, the presiding officer for the province’s inaugural legislative session on February 28, delivered oaths to 57 members.
Members who took oath included elected parliamentarians from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), and others.
Bugti, who was elected unopposed for the coveted CM position, took the oath of office on March 2, confronting a slew of obstacles as the province remains severely hit by terrorism.
Meanwhile, Senate elections will be held next month, with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) scheduled to release a revised list of candidates on the 26th of this month. Candidates who wanted to withdraw their candidacy papers might do so by March 17.
It is worth noting that 52 seats in the upper house of parliament will become empty on Tuesday, when the present senators’ six-year terms expire.
