As he accepted his prizes at the 66th Annual Grammy prizes, Jay Z could not contain his candor.
The rapper, who was nominated four times for Album of the Year, viciously attacked the Grammys for failing to include his wife, Beyoncé, in the category.
As the 54-year-old hip-hop artist took the stage to accept the 2nd annual Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, he voiced issues with the voting category selection procedure.
“We want everyone to get it correct,” he said. “At least approaching accuracy. It’s also blatantly subjective. You guys don’t have to applaud everything. Since it’s music and depends on opinions, it is obviously subjective.
Jay Z went on, saying, “But, you know, a few things— I don’t want to put this young lady in the wrong,
She has never won album of the year, but she has more Grammys than anybody else.
Therefore, even by your own standards, that is ineffective. Consider that. album of the year, no matter how many Grammys it won. Without mentioning Beyoncé, he said, “That doesn’t work.”
“Some of you may feel as though you’ve been defrauded when you return home tonight. Maybe a few of you will get robbed. Not all of you fit neatly into one group. No, I tell the truth when I’m nervous.
The rapper then invited his daughter Blue Ivy to the stage, praising her for “showing up” and pointing out how “nervous” he appeared.
“Beyond that, you know, we got to keep showing up and forget the Grammys for a second,” stated Jay Z.
