The MV Chem Ranger was targeted by two missiles fired by the Houthis, but the Pentagon said that there was no damage or injury reported.
The attack happened on Thursday after the US launched its fifth round of strikes in Yemen.
US forces “took out a range of Houthi missiles” that were to be fired towards the Red Sea, according to the White House.
Reporters in Washington, DC, questioned Mr. Biden about the effectiveness of the attacks on Houthi targets following the US strikes.
“So, by working, do you mean that they’re putting an end to the Houthis? No, “exclaimed he.
“Will they keep going? Indeed.
In a statement, US Central Command, which is in charge of US operations in the Middle East, claimed to have “conducted strikes on two Houthi anti-ship missiles that were aimed into the Southern Red Sea and were prepared to launch” on Thursday.
“US forces identified the missiles in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen” approximately 15:40 local time (12:40 GMT) “and determined they were an imminent threat to merchant vessels and US Navy ships in the region” .
“US forces subsequently struck and destroyed the missiles in self-defense.”
Later, during a briefing, Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said to reporters, “We do not seek war.”
“The Houthis and I are not at war. We are acting defensively with these actions.”
