Publicist Jerry Digney announced that Newhart, who was ninety-four, had passed away following “a series of short illnesses”.

In 1960, his routine was recorded on vinyl as The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, which went on to win the Grammy Award for album of the year. This led to his widespread renown in the United States.
