A Chinese national accused of running a large cybercrime network has been extradited to South Korea. Authorities say the group targeted high profile individuals, including BTS member Jungkook, and stole millions through coordinated hacking attacks.
Massive Cyber Fraud Investigation Unfolds
South Korean prosecutors allege the suspect helped lead a hacking operation that stole around 38 billion won, equal to about 25.4 million dollars. Victims reportedly included government systems, public figures, and business executives.
Investigators say the group accessed sensitive accounts by breaking into online platforms linked to public agencies and individuals.
BTS Jungkook’s Account Targeted
Officials claim hackers accessed a securities account linked to Jungkook and attempted to move shares worth around 8.4 billion won.
Wider Victims Across Business Sector
Authorities also believe the hacking ring targeted senior figures, including a major business group chairman and a venture company executive. The attacks reportedly continued over a long period, from August 2023 to April 2025.
Police say the suspect was living in Bangkok before extradition and is now under investigation in South Korea.
Arrest Process Underway
Law enforcement officials plan to request an arrest warrant after questioning the suspect and reviewing digital evidence.
