Punjab Saturday made a request to the federal government on April 21 (Sunday) to halt mobile internet services in the province’s 13 districts and tehsils.
The goal of the proposal is to preserve the province’s state of law and order and prevent any unfavorable incidents.
The provincial home department asked for the suspension in a letter to the interior ministry because tomorrow is the day for by-elections in around two dozen national and provincial assembly constituencies.
The letter states that the districts of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sadiqabad, Kot Chutta, and Dera Ghazi Khan have requested the suspension of mobile internet services.
In the meantime, Talagang, Chakwal, Kallar Kahar, Gujarat, Ali Pur Chatha, Zafarwal, and Bhakkar are the tehsils where the suspension request has been made.
