Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stressed that the federal government will not impose additional tariffs on solar panels to ensure that affordable energy is accessible to every citizen, following much speculation about changes to net metering and new taxes on solar items.

The explanation was made in response to the federal government’s announcement that “gross metering” will replace solar net metering, and other claims that additional levies on solar items would be implemented, significantly reducing the financial advantages of generating electricity internally.

In addition to expressing happiness that the nation is moving toward economic stability, PM Shehbaz stated that the “government is planning to put the national economy on a positive trajectory.”

He said this while presiding over the federal cabinet meeting on Tuesday in Islamabad, where the ministers made a number of important decisions.

The prime minister reaffirmed the determination to increase the nation’s exports through supporting small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and removing privileges from the wealthy and those who abuse the riches of the country.

He went on to say that among the government’s top concerns were giving the average person equal chances and economic protection.

As they discussed the yearly budget for 2024–2025, the premier gave the members instructions to make sure they were present during the continuing budget discussion in the parliament.
