Following the United States’ denial of visas to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his entourage, there are growing calls to move the UN General Assembly session from New York to Geneva, according to media sources.
The session is anticipated to yield significant decisions on Palestine’s recognition. According to media sources, the General Assembly will hold high-level debates from September 23 to 27 and end on September 29.
Approximately 80 Palestinian leaders have had their visas denied by the Trump administration. Yasser Arafat, the head of the PLO, was similarly prohibited from visiting New York by the United States in 1988.
This is the first attempt at such a complete ban in the history of the United Nations.
