MONTREAL: Canada has designated the Bishnoi gang from India as a “terrorist entity,” focusing on a group connected to a murder that caused a rift between Ottawa and New Delhi last year.
Canada has accused the infamous syndicate, which is well-known in India for extortion and assassinations, of being involved in the death of Canadian citizen and well-known Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who lived close to Vancouver.
In 2023, Nijjar, who had pushed for the creation of a distinct Sikh state within India, was shot and killed in a parking lot.
