After investigation, AI-generated sexualized avatars are removed from social platforms Problem Overview Multiple accounts have been removed from social media sites after complaints were made about AI-created female avatars being used in a harmful or misleading way. The accounts featured digital characters with a high sexualization factor that looked like Black women. Some profiles use misleading identities and suggestive images to quickly attract large audiences. Some profiles also advertised links that led users to external websites with paid adult content. The Accounts Worked These accounts used AI-generated images and videos to make them look like actual influencers. The avatars are often exaggerated and have unrealistic skin tones. Some accounts names contained words related to race or appearance. Some posts had captions with provocative and racialized topics. These accounts had been linked through likes and follows, creating a social network which increased visibility. Many profiles claimed that they did not use AI even though their content was completely generated. The Impact of Real Content Creators In one case, a video of a real-life model was altered by AI in order to substitute her face with an artificial avatar. The original footage and movements of the model were used without her permission. The content of her profile was viewed far more on the fake profiles than it did on her real account. These videos were viewed by tens and millions. The misuse was reported to her multiple times, but it took a long time before any action was taken. She was concerned about identity theft as well as the spreading of false content. Platform Response Several accounts were deleted after the problem was brought to light. However, similar profiles had already spread across multiple platforms. Several companies said they are reviewing AI-generated content and enhancing detection systems. Expert Concerns Digital analysts and researchers warn that AI-generated avatars may reinforce stereotypes. The content is often based on exaggerated features of race and sexualized frames. AI also makes it simpler to distribute and create synthetic identities in large numbers, according to experts. Virtual personas are not accountable to real-life social consequences. Also, users may find it increasingly difficult to distinguish between AI-generated content and real material.

The price of oil has risen above $100 a barrel amid conflicting US-Iran talks Brent crude oil is back at $100 per barrel, after a sharp fall on Monday. This was largely due to conflicting news reports about possible negotiations between Iran and the US. US and Iran Talks: Conflicting claims The oil prices fell earlier, after US President Donald Trump declared a suspension of strikes on Iranian energy installations. On Truth Social, he said that Iran and the US had an productive conversation. Tehran, however, denied all contact and called the allegations a market manipulating attempt. Trump said on Saturday that he'd "obliterate", Iranian power plants, if the Strait of Hormuz was closed for more than 48 hours. Iran responded to the threat by saying it would target key infrastructure in that region. Brent crude rose to $113 a barrel after these statements. After Trump announced Monday that all strikes had been suspended and that both countries were working on a "COMPLETE and TOTAL" solution, prices fell and the global stock market rebounded. Market volatility Since the US and Israel attack Iran on 28th February, global energy markets are volatile. Brent crude climbed to $100 per barrel on Tuesday after Monday's drop. Asian markets were steady on Tuesday. Japan's Nikkei gained 0.8%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose by 1.6%. South Korea's Kospi gained 2.2%. Due to the region’s dependence on oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, Monday saw sharp losses. European markets responded mildly. Both the UK's FTSE 100, and Germany's Dax started slightly lower than their opening prices but both recovered by noon. The FTSE 100 ended 0.6% higher while the Dax finished just below flat. The Cac Index in France finished a little higher. S&P500 started off 0.8% lower before rebounding. Business Costs are Rising According to S&P Global Purchasing Managers' Index, UK firms reported their largest increase in monthly input costs for the past 22 years, more than three weeks after the start of the conflict. Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz on 28 February. This is where around 20 percent of world oil and gas are transported. Fuel prices have increased worldwide due to this disruption. The countries are taking measures to reduce the effects. US sanctions were temporarily lifted on oil from Russia and Iran already in the sea. China has delayed its planned increases in fuel prices to ease the burden of drivers.
