OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT group chats worldwide, transforming the AI from a personal assistant into a collaborative tool for friends, families, and teams. This rollout follows a successful trial in Japan and New Zealand.
With group chats, up to 20 participants can interact in a single conversation alongside ChatGPT. Whether planning trips, co-writing documents, settling debates, or conducting research, the AI assists by summarizing, comparing, and generating content for the group.
emojis,Privacy remains a priority. Each user’s settings and memory are kept private, and ChatGPT responds only when tagged. Participants can also use emojis and the AI can reference profile photos to make conversations more interactive.
Starting a group chat is simple: tap the people icon, add participants directly or via a shared link, and set up a brief profile with a name, username, and photo. Adding someone to an existing chat creates a new conversation, keeping the original discussion intact.
This update marks a move toward social collaboration, as OpenAI envisions ChatGPT becoming more than a personal assistant—actively participating in multi-person conversations, helping users plan, create, and make decisions together.
