Peter Murrell, the spouse of the former first minister and leader of the SNP, has been accused with embezzling party funds.
Chief Constable Jo Farrell said her officers are “objective” in her first interviews after taking over the second-biggest police force in the UK, but she wouldn’t comment on whether the protracted investigation will soon come to a close.
Officers began Operation Branchform, an investigation, in July 2021 in response to concerns regarding the usage of SNP funds.
Concerns were raised over the excess of £660,000 that was raised for a second campaign for Scottish independence.
According to Police Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon is still being investigated.
Colin Beattie, the former treasurer of the SNP, was also held for over 12 hours in the spring of last year in order to be questioned.
