The 34-year-old Kelce has only 69 receiving yards and zero touchdowns in his first three games of the season. It’s among his slowest career starts. Furthermore, compared to most veteran tight ends with lesser early-season output, Kelce has been under far more scrutiny because of his subpar start to the season.
Somehow, this week’s negative conversation about Kelce has been fueled by his relationship with Swift, the Chiefs’ desire to become the first NFL team in history to win three straight Super Bowls, and a more intrusive political environment.
During a segment on his show on Wednesday, news First Take” host Stephen A. Smith criticized Kelce for his slow.
In a Tuesday “The View” broadcast, Whoopi Goldberg also criticized Chiefs supporters who were holding Swift accountable for Kelce’s subpar performance. Goldberg seemed to be alluding to a recent discussion on social media where fans were blaming Kelce’s troubles in the early part of the season on his relationship with Swift.
