The NFL’s top receiver through three weeks of play, wide receiver Rashee Rice, was carted off the field after a Patrick Mahomes interception caused the quarterback to inadvertently drive into his favorite target’s knee while attempting to tackle the Chargers’ defender who had picked him off.
Rice was lying on the ground, clearly hurting. He had his hands on his head and a towel over his face as he was wheeled away, which is never a good indication.
The club will wait to see what Rice’s MRI shows, head coach Andy Reid stated after the victory, but it doesn’t seem like they’re anticipating anything positive. The Chiefs are reportedly concerned that Rice may have an ACL tear, which would be devastating for the offense going forward.
“I’m so sorry for Rashee,” he expressed to reporters. “… We’ll cross our fingers.”
Should it be a season-ending injury, the Chiefs would be without Isiah Pacheco (rehabilitating from a fractured fibula), Hollywood Brown (gone for the season before he played a snap with Kansas City), and Rice.
