The 49-year-old quit three months after Forest hired him as a referee analyst in February.
Clattenburg resigned after calling several decisions made during Nottingham Forest’s April loss to Everton a “joke” in a column that appeared in the Mail on Sunday.
Due to remarks they made after the loss, manager Nuno Espirito Santo and defender Neco Williams were both accused of misbehavior. Additionally, following the game, Forest issued a statement on the news stating that they had “warned” the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the organization that oversees referees, that Stuart Attwell, the video assistant referee, was a supporter of Luton Town, a team that is relegated, and that he should do it.
“No, because if you look it caused more problems than it did good,” Clattenburg said when asked if his job at the club was a success on Radio 5Live.
“We tried a few things inside the team to give Nottingham Forest a competitive advantage, but some individuals, organizations, and businesses seemed to be very offended by what we did. It was merely emphasized every week.”
There is a “misinterpretation” of his function at the club, according to Clattenburg, who also stressed that his responsibilities extended beyond just advising the club on matters pertaining to refereeing.
