During her visit to the main office of the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), she demanded the creation of a thorough evacuation plan that would move residents to safe areas in the event of flooding. She also gave the order for animals to be evacuated from regions affected by flooding.
Every nullah in the province was to be cleaned, per the chief minister’s directive. CM Maryam gave the order, “Remove all encroachments from the banks of nullahs and streams.”
The chief meteorologist, the PDMA DG, and the secretary of irrigation gave her a thorough briefing during which they informed her that normal to above normal rainfall was predicted for various regions of the nation during the three months of the rainy season, which begins in July.
She expressed amazement that Pakistan does not have an early flood warning system, despite similar systems existing elsewhere in the world.
The central control room of the PDMA was also visited by the chief minister.
PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia, MPA Sania Ashiq, chief secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, senior Punjab minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, and other provincial ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Kazim Pirzada, and other relevant officials were also present during the meeting.
