Celebrity friends Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green, and Gabrielle Carteris all grew up with Doherty in the popular teen series of the 1990s. Garth, who was once co-starring with Doherty, called her “the woman I have often described as one of the strongest people I have ever known” on social media.
Doherty passed away on Saturday at the age of 53, nine years following her breast cancer diagnosis. Her passing occurs five years following the stroke death of Luke Perry, a fellow Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star who portrayed her on-screen boyfriend Dylan McKay, in 2019 at the age of 52.
In the sitcom, which chronicled the lives of a group of friends in a wealthy Los Angeles suburb, Doherty portrayed Brenda Walsh, Brandon Walsh’s twin sister from Priestley.
“Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen,” Priestley wrote in his tribute. I will miss the force of nature that was hers.
