With the amazing title of “super-recogniser,” she works for the UK digital ID company Yoti, where her job is to compare an uploaded selfie with the photographs on an identity card to see if they are the same person.
However, identifying so-called deepfakes presents a new threat for Yoti and other ID companies. These are artificial intelligence (AI)-generated fake photos.
Louise informs me that although the company is well aware of the issue, she hasn’t yet been asked to evaluate deepfakes as part of her day job. It is therefore aggressively developing technology to assist in identifying them.
Using the Deepfake quiz to test her knowledge, she received a score of seven out of eight. “There’s a deadness in people’s eyes that really means they don’t look real,” Louise explains.
Combating deepfakes “has become an arms race.”
A face is never lost on Louise Bruder. This has not only come in useful at parties but has also paved the way for her professional success.
