President Donald Trump’s powerful ally, Charlie Kirk, a US right-wing activist and broadcaster, was shot in the neck Wednesday during an event at a Utah university in what the governor called a political assassination.
Nearly six hours after the incident, authorities had yet to officially identify a suspect by Wednesday evening. An unidentified “subject” had been held for interrogation before being released, according to FBI Director Kash Patel.
“Our investigation continues, and we will continue to release information in the interest of transparency,” he posted to social media.
