Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Senator Irfan Siddiqui has said that the government’s attempt to table the constitutional package has been “postponed indefinitely” while the ruling alliance is still working hard to reach an agreement on the highly contentious constitutional amendments.
The PML-N lawmaker said in an interview with News on Monday that he did not disagree with the revisions on the grounds of principle and that Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the JUI-F, had “well-justified” arguments. Siddiqui countered that Fazl required more time to examine the draft amendment.
“Fazl agrees on certain amendments but needs time to study details of some provisions,” he stated.
The development follows multiple talks with the JUI-F chief, during which the government reportedly failed to win his support for the proposed constitutional amendments.
