A spokesman for the Taliban government announced Tuesday that 1,411 people had died in the earthquake in Afghanistan, which was the deadliest to strike the area in years.
According to the group, the calamity has damaged over 8,000 homes and injured at least 3,251 individuals.
Rescuers will attempt to reach remote settlements in the eastern part of Kunar, which is the epicenter of one of the deadliest earthquakes the country has ever seen.
Following the quake, rescue attempts were conducted in four villages in Kunar. According to Ehsanullah Ehsan, the provincial head of disaster management, efforts would now concentrate on reaching more isolated mountain regions.
