The Cabinet Division announced on Sunday that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has been named the nation’s deputy prime minister in an unexpected move.
“The Prime Minister has been pleased to designate Mr Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, as Deputy Prime Minister with immediate effect and until further orders,” stated the announcement.

Following the February 8 elections, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) formed a coalition government, and Dar was named the nation’s foreign minister.
In addition to being a seasoned politician and chartered accountant, Dar,73, is a close relative of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.
