Disney CEO Bob Iger stated on Wednesday that the project, which was once slated to be a TV series, would now be a sequel, saying, “We can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui.”
Over one billion hours have been spent streaming the first movie onDisney+, after earning over $680 million (£538 million) at the worldwide box office. It received two Oscar nominations as well.
Living on the made-up Polynesian island of Motunui in the first movie, Moana embarks on an oceanic quest with the demigod Maui in order to save her people.
After receiving a call from her ancestors, she will set off on a perilous expedition to the distant seas of Oceania in the upcoming chapter.
The sequel is billed as “an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced” in the description.
David Derrick Jr. is directing it, and some of the musical talent includes Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, Mark Mancina, and winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear. It is scheduled for release on November 27.
Regarding the voice performers, no information has been disclosed.
