Despite suffering from heat fatigue and a left leg injury, Novak Djokovic defeated Jaume Munar 6-3 5-7 6-2 on Tuesday to go to the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals.
The 38-year-old Djokovic sustained the injury in the opening set in a match that lasted two hours and forty-one minutes, forcing him to seek a medical timeout. Additionally, he suffered from the heat, and at one point, when the temperature was close to 30 degrees Celsius and the humidity was around 80%, medical personnel checked his vitals.
On Sunday, when world number two Jannik Sinner retired due to cramps, the Serbian also puked during his match against Yannick Hanfmann.
The circumstances were described as “brutal” by the 38-year-old earlier in the competition.
