On social media, Miami Dolphins long snapper Blake Ferguson had the final say after sports anchor Jemele Hill came under fire for remarks she made a few years prior regarding the Detroit Lions hiring Dan Campbell as their head coach.
Hill was the target of a Milwaukee Bucks fan account on X on Monday following Campbell’s Lions’ first-ever postseason victory in thirty-two years. Hill posted a screenshot of a post in 2021 that said, “This is who black coaches are losing opportunities to.” The account captured that post.
In response, Hill wrote that she was “putting something together because it requires more than a tweet.” She also cited her writing from when Campbell was hired, in which she stated, “but all the white folks in your mention cannot point to a single example of a black coach having this kind of opportunity.” At the time, no one was predicting Campbell would be a poor coach.
Ferguson added his voice on Wednesday.
“I believe ‘I was wrong’ fits within the 280 character limit,” he wrote in X.
Prior to joining the Lions, Campbell was an assistant coach for the New Orleans Saints. In Week 5, he took Joe Philbin’s place as the Miami Dolphins’ temporary head coach in 2015. With Miami, he was 5-7.

For the position, the Lions conducted interviews with Darrell Bevell, Marvin Lewis, Eric Bieniemy, and Robert Saleh.
Saleh, Mike Tomlin, Ron Rivera, Brian Flores, and David Culley were some of the minority head coaches in 2021.
With two victories remaining, the Lions can play in the Super Bowl for the first time ever and advance to the NFC Championship for the first time since 1991.
