It’s thought to be the first encounter between the prime minister of the United Kingdom today and the past, or future, president of the United States.
The two got together on Thursday night in New York, where Sir Keir was staying while attending the UN.
JD Vance, Mr. Trump’s vice presidential candidate, was also greeted by Labour’s foreign secretary, David Lammy.
Prior to the meeting, Sir Keir expressed his desire to meet with both Mr. Trump and Kamala Harris before the November election in an interview with journalists.
However, the “usual diary challenges” made meeting the Democrat difficult.
“It’ll be really to establish a relationship between the two of us,” Sir Keir stated.
Sir Keir responded that the nature of the “special relationship” between the US and the UK “always sits above whoever holds the particular office” when asked if a Trump administration would expose Ukraine.
He continued, “The people of the United States will choose their president, and we will cooperate with that person.”
I won’t make any assumptions about what specific problems the opposition may be pushing.
