In response to mounting international pressure over Israel’s war’s unprecedented extension beyond Gaza, US President Donald Trump expressed his displeasure with Israel’s airstrike in Qatar that targeted Hamas officials.
Authorities in Doha say a Qatari security officer and five Hamas members were slain in the rare attack on Qatari territory. Additionally, since Hamas acknowledged that its negotiators were meeting at the time of the incident, it threatened to disrupt sensitive peace talks supported by the US.
Israel justifies the attack.
Targeting key Hamas leaders responsible for the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the operation as “fully justified.”
Israeli forces were instructed to plan the strike after fatal strikes in Gaza and Jerusalem, Defense Minister Israel Katz revealed.
