As the first former US president to be found guilty of a crime, Donald Trump issued a warning that “it would be tough for the public to take” if he was sent behind bars.
On Thursday, the former president was unanimously convicted guilty of 34 counts of forging company records to conceal payments of “hush money” to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
He has insisted on his innocence and declared that he will fight the decision.
In an interview with Friends Weekend on Sunday, Trump intimated that house arrest or incarceration would mark “a breaking point” for Americans.
The former president stated he is “OK with” potentially serving time in prison, but added, “I don’t know that the public would stand it.”
You know, I’m not sure what the general population would support.
I believe the people would find it difficult to accept. You are aware that there comes a breaking point.”
Trump added, “People get it,” to his ongoing accusations that the trial was biased against him. It’s a fraud.
“And the Republican party has remained united throughout this. They observe that the FBI’s Justice Department is being weaponized, and all of this is coming from Washington.”
The former president attacked the judge, Joe Biden, and district attorney Alvin Bragg during a 40-minute address on Friday at Trump Tower, marking the latest attack following Thursday’s guilty decision.
