LAHORE: In preparation for Muharram 2024, the Punjabi government has announced a ban on pillion riding throughout the province and requisitioned the services of the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers.
As per a story published on Saturday in The News, the province government requested the military’s deployment to uphold peace and order throughout the month.
The office of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has requested 150 companies of troops from the interior ministry to help Punjab police with security tasks in Muharram, which is scheduled to begin on July 8.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department stated that from the first to the 12th of Muharram, 81 Pakistan Rangers companies were requested, while 69 Pakistan Army companies were requisitioned by the government.
