LAHORE: The Punjab police department has established a new unit called Eagle Squad Kasur, consisting of 200 individuals under 40 years of age, whose sole mission is to prevent violent crimes in the city.
Bound by the Okara district to the southwest and Lahore to the north, the severely underdeveloped Kasur has been severely affecting the crime rate in neighboring cities, especially in the provincial capital, which is only 45 minutes away from where the hardened criminals used to travel to commit crimes.
It has also been the focus of several child abuse scandals in recent times, drawing the notice of Punjab police officials.
Kasur has a 1:2,150 police-population ratio, a border area of 111 km, and a total of 25 police stations.
200 employees were chosen from the pool of constables and head constables from each of the Kasur police stations.
According to an official, the Kasur police hierarchy convened several times in an attempt to find a long-term solution to the high crime rate. Eventually, they devised the plan to increase the force that would deal with property-related crimes.
He added that an Eagle Squad comprising ten percent of the district’s police force was formed by a group of police professionals led by Kasur DPO Essa Sukhera. The Eagle Squad then presented the plan to the Punjab Inspector General, who gave it their blessing.
He stated that the squad’s members, who were all under 40, were chosen from among the constables and chief constables employed by Kasur’s police stations.
