ISLAMABAD: As a pilot project, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is considering introducing Brazilian electronic voting machines (EVMs) into the nation.
The change occurred as a result of a high-level ECP mission visiting the South American nation to investigate and carry out a feasibility study of electronic voting machine procedures.
In a statement released by the commission, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja led the trip, which also included Director General (IT) Muhammad Khizer Aziz, Director Nadeem Zubair, and provincial Election Commissioner (Punjab) Aijaz Anwar Chohan.
“In order to complete this crucial assignment, the Election Commission will research Brazil’s election system in more detail with regard to EVM implementation as a pilot project in Pakistan.
The Information Technology Wing and Project Management Unit of ECP will collaborate to complete this significant assignment as a further step, the statement stated.
According to the commission, whereas Brazil and India use electronic voting machines (EVMs) nationwide, several other countries only use them in part for their elections.
According to the ECP, Brazil has one of the greatest and most technologically sophisticated election systems in the world. As a result, the commission made the decision to travel to Brazil and speak with senior representatives of the Tribunal Superior Electoral (TSE), the nation’s most important electoral authority.
