ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) dismissed a returning officer (RO) after an “unknown” lady was given a reserved seat on a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) ticket.
The dispute developed after the JUI-F claimed that an “unknown woman” was appointed as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) to one of its reserved seats.
A day earlier, JUI-F Emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman filed an application to suspend the notification of the “unknown woman” and request a probe into the situation.
“Sadaf Sultan is not a JUI-F member or on our list. The notification for Sadaf Ehsan should be suspended, and Ms. Hina Bibi should be notified [on the reserved seat],” the JUI-F chairman urged in the plea.
The election authority issued the notification.
The electoral authority issued notification F6 of 2024 for the triumph of an unknown woman in the NA reserved seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the electoral board stated that it has ordered an investigation into the case and will hold an open hearing on March 26 to settle the issue.
According to the ECP, Sadaf Yasmin was on a list presented by the JUI-F for the allocation of a reserved women’s seat.
