A stifling on-set feud between actor Ed O’Neill and his longtime co-star is being explained.
For eleven seasons, O’Neill played Al Bundy in the occasionally contentious television series “Married… with Children.” He said to his friend Jesse Tyler Ferguson, with whom he costarred in the 11-season sitcom “Modern Family,” on his podcast, “It was also kind of a show that no one wanted to admit that they liked.”
When O’Neill, who is currently 77, looked back on his time on the show, he acknowledged that he regretted his rivalry with Amanda Bearse. “We had a long history of not getting along. We had a wonderful friendship. I suppose you could say that I don’t want to speak for her. It all began when we received the TV Guide cover.”
Star of “MARRIED…WITH CHILDREN” REBOOT, SAYS DAVID FAUSTINO, IS STILL ON HOLD.Neill claims that Bearse and David Garrison, who portrayed Steve Rhoades and Marcy D’Arcy, respectively, were not intended to be featured. They were informed they couldn’t appear on the front. He referred to TV Guide’s limitations as “because they had a rule: there’s only so many [that] can be on the cover.” “Now they violated that for like two shows, I think it was ‘MAS*H’ and ‘Dallas,'” he said.
“That was an unusual instance. They weren’t fulfilling our needs. We were fortunate to obtain it. In reference to the July–August 1989 cover, he remarked, “It felt like the sixth year in or something.
The program debuted in 1987. “We were overjoyed to appear on TV Guide’s cover. It was sizable. And David and Amanda emerged from their dressing room together. She said, “We expect you to go to [co-creator] Ron Leavitt and tell him this doesn’t work,” while we were in the soundstage. Everybody is on the cover.”
“If I had been diplomatic, I would have replied, ‘Okay.'” “I’ll discuss it with him,” O’Neill proposed.
