As the nation gets ready for the general elections on February 8, many are hoping that the violence against candidates will put an end to the country’s problems, which include political unrest, terrorism, and economic hardships.
Terrorists opened fire on Mohsin Dawar’s convoy last week in the Tappi hamlet, targeting the head of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) and former member of the National Assembly.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), was also attacked on December 31 in Dera Ismail Khan, but he managed to escape unharmed.
Because of the “unstable” security situation in various sections of the province, political actors, including Fazl, have expressed worries and questions about the polls being held.
The number of terror events in Pakistan increased alarmingly in the previous year, to its highest level since 2014.
