Tesla and SpaceX Merger Speculation
Combining the two businesses would be one of the biggest mergers in history, with SpaceX valued at $2 trillion and Tesla valued at about $1.5 trillion (£1.1 trillion).
In addition to producing space rockets and Starlink internet satellites, SpaceX’s Starshield division offers nations, particularly the US, a secure satellite network.
Due to allegations that Ukraine’s access to the network has been restricted, making it susceptible to lethal attacks by Russia, that aspect of the company is presently under investigation.
Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has disputed that Musk or himself ordered the pause.
Starlink’s overall revenue increased from $3 billion in the same time last year to $5.2 billion in the three months ending September 30. SpaceX’s growth into providing cloud computing power for other tech businesses, including Anthropic and Google, dwarfs it.
Over the course of the three months, the company’s revenues increased from $813 million to $7.5 billion.
'Tap dancing through a minefield'
Musk, who became the first paper trillionaire in history following SpaceX’s stock market debut earlier this year, said he is not a member of any of the special committees that are deliberating the mega-merger.
He called himself a “conflicted party” because he was the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla.
Musk even likened the prospect of merging the two businesses to “tap dancing through a minefield” in his remarks.
He continued by saying that shareholders will ultimately decide whether to combine. A merger would require the consent of at least 50% of Tesla’s shareholders, which Musk called “quite a high hurdle to achieve”.
Musk’s Tesla and SpaceX Shift to AI
In the past, investors have backed Musk’s goals. The majority of Tesla stockholders accepted Musk’s remuneration package last year, which was estimated to be worth $1 trillion.
Despite Tesla’s reputation as an electric vehicle manufacturer, Musk has recently moved resources there to focus on robots.
When SpaceX debuted on the public market in June, it swiftly surpassed Tesla in terms of valuation because to its increasing concentration on AI technology.
SpaceX Losses Amid Musk’s Growing Business Empire
Despite an increase in sales from $13.7 billion to $27 billion during the first nine months of the year, SpaceX is not profitable overall.
Despite reporting a $4.4 billion profit for the most recent three months, it lost $1.1 billion over the same period.
SpaceX’s stock price increased 8% in after-hours trade after Musk’s remarks. Tesla’s stock increased by 2% when the company released its own quarterly results on Wednesday.
Musk has been grouping more of his businesses under a smaller number of labels in the past year. SpaceX purchased XAI and X before to going public earlier this year.
Musk Signals Potential Tesla and SpaceX Merger
Another indication that Musk believes his firms could be more productive when they collaborate is the recent creation of Terafab, a joint venture between SpaceX and Tesla to produce computer chips.
Musk stated on Tuesday that a complete merger of the two businesses would make sense given their respective efforts in software, processors, and artificial intelligence.
