A coal mine collapsed in Harnai District, Balochistan, trapping 20 people within, killing up to 12 miners and rescuing eight others.
The event comes after Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti took notice of the issue and directed the authorities to conduct rescue and relief operations after a mine in Harnai’s Zardalo district collapsed due to a gas explosion.
According to the chief mines expert, the ensuing rescue efforts resulted in the survival of eight miners and the recovery of 12 bodies.
The official also stated that the mine had been “sealed” following the conclusion of the rescue operation.
Earlier, responding to the incident, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sympathy over the death.
The premier directed the authorities to guarantee that rescue efforts were accelerated and that those injured in the event received the appropriate treatment.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah extended their sympathies to the dead family.
Sadiq was quoted as stating, “We are with the grieving families,” in a statement posted by the NA’s official X Twitter.
